One World Orchestra seeks to inspire a society where the richness of difference and diversity is celebrated.
The orchestra is made up of professional musicians from a diverse range of cultures and musical traditions, some of whom have lived experience of displacement. Together they share a desire to create music that combines and honours the diverse instruments, rhythms, languages and stories that they bring and to demonstrate that our differences can combine to make something beautiful and inspiring.
Alongside their creative and performance work, One World Orchestra run workshops and community projects, bringing together people from displaced and settled communities who rarely have opportunities to interact. Music can invoke the full spectrum of human experience — from joy to heartbreak, celebration to reflection. Sharing stories and creating music together can be a powerful tool to break down barriers, build bridges and change perspectives.
We are impressed by the work that One World Orchestra does to both model and inspire a deeper understanding of the richness that can arise when diverse cultures come together creatively and we are looking forward to seeing their work develop further.
