For Men To Talk is a men's peer support group for men suffering from mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and grief to talk openly and support one another.
Based in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, For Men to Talk was founded by Luke Newman after his own experience of bereavement and mental illness. The organisation creates a community of understanding, encouragement and nonjudgemental listening. They deliver regular physical, virtual, walking, and fishing meetings that help men reconnect, feel less alone, and build the confidence to seek further help.
Statistically, men are less likely to access therapy and are also more likely to feel societal pressure to "stay strong". By offering informal and accessible gatherings, For Men to Talk reduces isolation and helps to removes barriers to accessing support.
For Men to Talk was launched just before the pandemic and demand on mental health support services has dramatically increased since then. It is good to see how For Men to Talk provides opportunities to access support at an early stage and to potentially prevent crises from developing.
