Bees and Refugees is a community-driven organisation that introduces beekeeping to refugees, asylum seekers, and disadvantaged local residents in urban and rural UK settings.
Beekeeping serves as a participatory activity that not only supports the UK's declining bee populations but also empowers individuals by teaching practical skills, fostering emotional well-being, and building community networks.
As well as gaining vocational skills, participants become part of a community that shares a core purpose. Working collaboratively through beekeeping, conservation and food-growing reduces social-isolation and enables participants to become valued contributors to their local environments.
We love multi-faceted projects and the work of Bees and Refugees has many impacts — on individuals, communities and on local ecosystems. We are looking forward to seeing this work develop further.
