Handcrafted is born out of a desire to see people who are disadvantaged due to crime, alcohol or substance abuse, unemployment, ill health or old age making a positive step and becoming active members of the community again.
Based in Durham and Gateshead, they teach practical skills such woodworking, bike repair, gardening and catering, giving participants the opportunity to create things, to build, to plant and to discover that they can achieve.
Handcrafted also work with other partners to renovate homes and provide accommodation for participants who are homeless. They also support people in finding their employment or starting their own enterprises.
Handcrafted have built an innovative model for engaging disadvantaged individuals and helping them to make positive changes in their lives. We were very impressed by their hands on approach, and their inventiveness in finding ways to expand the scope of their project.
