The Voice Hub in Newport, Wales, is a volunteer-led community space, for people in recovery from drug and alcohol issues.
The Voice Hub provides befriending, mutual aid groups, skills-based workshops, volunteering opportunities, assistance with benefits & housing issues, employability training and basic skills to enable people to sustain their recovery and re-integrate back into their communities.
Most of the volunteers have experience of recovery from substance misuse, and so they understand the issues that are faced by those moving from treatment to recovery. The Voice Hub provides a place to form positive friendships and become part of a supportive community, and in turn to help others.
The Voice Hub only opened in May 2014, but it is already working to its capacity in its current setting. When we met the team we could see why – they are inspirational in their dedication and commitment to supporting those in recovery. The Voice Hub offers a different model for doing this and we are excited to see how it develops and what learning they will be able to offer to others wanting to do something similar.
