North East Young Dads and Lads

North East Young Dads and Lads is a unique youth support service that is dedicated to helping young men and young fathers to play an active and meaningful role in the lives of their children, within families and wider society.

Young men facing fatherhood repeatedly tell us that they are overlooked, misunderstood and stigmatised by a range of statutory services representing social care, education and health, forcing them to confront the pressures of navigating family, partner and peer relationships, new adult responsibilities and changing identities alone. Through individual and peer to peer work we help them to gain greater self-confidence, self-reliance and resilience; enhance their parenting practice and improve relationships; and access wider help from other services.

We also empower the young men to challenge negative perceptions, campaign effectively to improve service provision and practice, and direct NEYD&L's work and vision.

Steve from IF says...

We were impressed by the multi-faceted approach that NEYD&L takes to support young fathers and by the ownership that the young men are encouraged to have over the work of the charity – as peer mentors, researchers, leaders and trustees.
