Handcrafted is born out of a desire to see people who are disadvantaged due to crime, alcohol or substance abuse, unemployment, ill health or old age making a positive step and becoming active members of the community again.
They teach practical skills such woodworking, gardening and house renovation, giving participants the opportunity to create things, to build, to plant and to discover that they can achieve.
The project then supports people in finding their ideal job or starting their own enterprises, and also serves people in need in the Durham area by providing affordable goods, repairs and services.
Handcrafted have built an innovative model for engaging disadvantaged individuals and helping them to make positive changes in their lives. We were very impressed by their hands on approach, and their inventiveness in finding ways to expand the scope of their project.
